The Protector

by Joe Froeter

It was the first day of school and Will was getting ready for his field trip. He was going on a welcome gift or something sort of like that, you could call it a party but climbing a small mountain for two apple trees wasn't exactly the most fun he could have. Will only had three friends named Danny, Liz and George... they all called Will Willy except Liz who insisted on calling him William.   But everyone new that his real name was Will.

Will was a boy about 11, on the short side. He had short blond hair that came about to the tip of his ears. He was never really the popular kid but he didn't mind, he liked life the way it was. Like his dad said if you pick a rotten plum pick a new one. So that was what he did: if life got him down or someone was mean to him he would play with some one else. He didn't have to be like the people who cared about every little rotten plum. He knew he would just get the good teacher, have a perfect attendance record, have extended every subject, but never ever get a girlfriend.

Danny was on the short side but really weak, unlike Will who could flex so big people would think it was a mountain. One thing Danny did have was a sense of style.     He would always find the coolest shirt in the store and bargain it to half its price.   Like Will he had short hair but it was brown not blond.   Liz on the other hand was crazy about style like Danny so they went shopping a lot.   She had long black curly hair that went down to almost her ribs!

Also, on the way back from the field trip they were going to stop at a Ben & Jerry's for ice cream. Everyone already new they wanted: coconut joy, it was there favorite. Their school was not even with people from other countries. There was 60% white, 20% black, and 10% Asian, 10% South American. Even though it was not even, everyone still felt like they could be friends with everyone unless they were aliens but that was an inside joke that Will and his friends made.
